How to Straighten My Curly Hair with Flat Irons

So today I’m giving you guys some tips on how I straighten my curly hair with flat irons to get your hair from curly craziness to straight whoosh hair. Hopefully someone other than me knows what I’m talking about lol. As you guys can see, my hair is anything but straight, but the way I straighten my curly hair is the easiest for me and creates the least amount of damage.

Before I straighten my curly hair, here are some tips!

My number one tip when it comes to straightening your hair without a crap ton of damage, is to let it air dry. Yeah using a heat protector will mitigate some of the damages to the ends of your hair, but the less heat you use the healthier your hair will be in the long run. Another thing I would highly recommend is to ALWAYS use a heat protector, especially if you use heat a lot. A good one will make your hair look healthier and shinier than if you don’t use it. Also keep in mind that your hair can only handle so much heat. If you go over your hair a couple times and the curls are still there, bump it up a little, but not too much. Too much heat will fry your hair.

Couple Extra Tips

Personally I don’t wash my hair every day. My hair is super dry and washing it too much gives my hair a heart attack. So when I straighten it, if i notice pieces arent straight- or aren’t the way I like them- I will fix it. I will usually straighten my hair twice a month, and when I wash my hair, I’ll leave it curly to give my hair a break. Sometimes your hair needs a little alone time to recouperate ;).

  1. I have curly thick wavy hair and it takes me forever to straighten my hair so I don’t do it often. But when I do I use flat irons and I love making my hair look sleeker!

    1. Me too. The only down side when I do it though is that I live in Florida so not only do i have to be in the mood to deal with my hair, but the humidity has to be down too lol.

  2. My straight iron is a friend. It took a while to get the hang of it (especially to make a curl) .. but I love the look of super sleek hair. Thanks for the tutorial!

  3. I don’t have curly hair but I do have thick hair so I definitely understand what it is like to get straight hair. I have friends who have curly hair, but don’t know how to get it straight so I will pass these tips off to them. I love the Tresseme heat tamer leave in. I love all their products for getting straight hair.

  4. I always leave my hair to airdry, it is enough that I am using the hair straightener every day at least I am sparing my hair at least a bit I think.
